The Architect

CHIEF ARCHITECT, THE LEW HOUSE

Richard Neutra, born in 1892 in Vienna, Austria, studied architecture at the Vienna University of Technology from 1910 to 1918 under Adolf Loos and Otto Wagner. In 1922, he married Dione Niedermann and moved to the US in 1923. There, his career thrived, leaving a lasting impact. After meeting Frank Lloyd Wright at Louis Sullivan’s funeral, Neutra worked at Taliesin in Wisconsin until 1925. He then collaborated with Rudolf Schindler in California, and both families lived together on Kings Road in Los Angeles from February 1925 to May 1930. Neutra established his own practice, becoming a pioneer of the International Style. Twelve of his designs, including the Lovell Health House and the Richard and Dion Neutra VDL Research House, are designated as Historic Cultural Monuments.
